Our Philosophy
It is often said that play is the work of the child. What does this mean?
At a basic level, it encapsulates a child's development. Emotional, physical
and mental development all happen through play. Children learn about their
environment, themselves and other people through hands on practical experiences.
Toys that allow creativity and imagination, along with experimentation
are crucial to development.
Old-fashioned toys, wooden building blocks, alphabet blocks and math blocks may
seem passé in this day of high tech video games. However, play means physical
interaction, not mental distraction. Every time a child picks up a block dexterity
and shape are reinforced. Careful stacking and aligning allows for concepts of
balance and fine motor skills along with creativity, design and imagination.
Using alphabet blocks and number blocks reinforces letter and number recognition,
soon to be followed by spelling and mathematical manipulations.
The first three years of life are crucial to brain development. Even though formal
education has not begun, the foundation of mental ability is being formed. Don't
let these years pass by without giving your child high quality
toys like those found at playchild.
